Social Outreach Program - Swarnojwala
We stand at the threshold of a new era, quite determined to achieve further excellence and fulfill our vision of completely empowering women students to reach greater heights. As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations the institution has planned to introduce a new venture, a first of its kind in the history of our college, a scheme titled SWARNOJWALA – Rural Student Adoption Programme.
The scheme was formally launched during the Valedictory ceremony by the Provincial superior of the Sisters of Charity, Sr.Mary Kuriakose, in the presence of Hon.Min. of State (HRD) – Smt.Daggubati Purandareswari, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University-Prof.Tirupati Rao and other distinguished guests. This scheme will become operational from the academic year 2009-2010.

The Swarnojwala scheme in a very humble manner hopes to address the issue of gender parity and quality education for all. A heritage of concern for the under-served has been bequeathed to every member of the extended St. Francis’ family. It is this concern that has seeded the idea of a rural student adoption programme, as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, as the institution’s modest contribution to the cause of rural social development.
- This scheme aims to provide education to girls who are economically backward and first generation learners from rural background irrespective of their caste or creed.
- A team of dedicated experts would visit the rural areas and with the help of the local educationalists and identify girl students who have an aptitude for learning but are denied due to a number of constraints.
- An informal interview would be conducted to adjudge the aptitude of the student, her interests and her career aspirations. Based on the above exercise, ten girl students will be admitted into the 3 year degree programme of B.A, B.Sc. and B.Com..
- This programme will take care of the Financial, Academic and the Social needs of the student. The student will be provided for food& accommodation (36,000 per year) tuition fees (10,000 per year), and books and other requirements of a regular student of the college. The above mentioned need would require a minimum corpus fund of Rs. 7 lakhs per student which could generate an annual income of Rs. 70,000 annually.
- The academic support will be given by the staff who will volunteer to take over as an Academic Counselor and Guardian, providing the necessary direction and guidance to the students.
- The student would be provided the benefit of extra tutorials, courses to develop soft skills and other avenues for the overall personality development
- Utmost care will be taken to enable them to adjust to the environment and successfully complete their graduation.
- The college Placement Cell will assist them in providing employment on successful completion of their respective course.

St. Francis College invites you to be part of this exciting time, as you partner with us in this noble exercise. We appeal to your generosity and kindness, in bringing to fruition the dreams of these rural girl students who could in turn be instrumental in bringing great change in their villages. Come, join hands with us as we take this leap of faith, hoping for a better tomorrow for our rural sisters.
We hope your generous contribution will help us in our continuing pursuit for excellence. Kindly do let us know at the earliest regarding your capacity of involvement in contributing towards this scheme. Donors can avail tax exemption available to the institution.
